Does the list include every nightshade?

Nightshades are plants in the Solanaceae family, which includes around 2,500 members. Most are not edible. Also, a lot of the foods you need to avoid if you don't eat nightshades are ingredients in common sauces or spice mixes.

Instead of listing every nightshade plant, this list provides therefore includes the vegetables, spices, dressing, sauces and food additives you're likely to come across.

Although it is possible that you will find something that is nightshade-based that isn't on the list, and if you're uncertain it is still worth a check to see if the ingredient is from a member of the Solanaceae family, which would mean it's a nightshade. However, the list includes dozens of common and less-common nightshade-based items. We believe you'll find it very useful!
